Help Matt raise awareness and funds for Muscular Dystrophy NSW!
Story
I recently went under the knife for hip surgery and spent 2 weeks plodding way around (hilly) Sydney on crutches. As I’m sure many have experienced, everyday tasks on crutches quickly become difficult, tedious and frustrating. The most common form of MD is Duchenne MD, which primarily affects boys. Onset of this condition is between 3 and 5 years of age and the disorder progresses rapidly, with most boys completely dependent on an electric wheelchair by their early teens. Tragically, life expectancy for this disorder is usually only until late teens or early twenties. Being someone who has gained so much from sport, a key motivator in my support of the Big Red Ride and Kids For Life program is that it provides these youngsters with the opportunity to participate in modified sporting and recreational events, and enjoy all that goes with it.
